the rest is noise

nights are airless hot
the ringing
sound of silence heavy
quiet

“i want to wake up
in a city that never sleeps”

sunlight beams pierce
blind
the chase
splitting rumble
drills heavy
machinery
the dragging
waking from treacle sleep
to urban sprawl suburban
hum

saturday morning and
the world is taking off
outside the window

the morning after and
man is searching for
the centre
of
the earth
a predator
needing no stealth to claim
kingdom prey and
crown
this is a hold up
this is a siege
our senses are being starved
out
shattered
the ringing

“i want to wake
up”
