one man’s trash

in the suburbs
boys crawl through bins
bags in hand
for the daily haul
treacle cured
salmon
molasses glaze
a single orchid

in the frost
overripe fruit
bulges

at minus one
at midnight
peaches are pulped
a shot
of ginger
an overabundance

in the suburbs
boys flush with pride
trophies in hand
won from the night

what a lark
what a dive

hand decorated confectionary
languishes
at the bottom
of the bin
unclaimed
meat lies
sealed in plastic boxing
oxygen cannot reach them
here
in the suburbs
the rot
is slow
to set in

what a lark
what a dive
