screens hum blue
tinwhistle ears blow
steam
and bleed
sound seeps
like ink on damp
leaves

there is a haze
around the town
casting roses at dusk
into the sky
people stare
at lilac clouds
open mouthed

metallic tang
tints their tongues

the roses cast shadows
across eyes

after dark
air gulps bitter
acid raindrops
stain
and paint
petroleum puddles
to otherworldly
hues

(i think i’d like to lick
them
i think i’d like to bathe
in ultraviolet
waves)

lights ring out
insomniac eyes
sweat
red raw dawn
the sound of drums
in temple
second hand grasps
neck

vegetables are rotting
in the aisles
everyone is sad
and my heart
beats
hard
in my throat

iron mouthed
i can barely speak
